<\/p>\nThe walls of Lucca are perhaps the city\u2019s most characterizing element, certainly among the 10 things to see if you are a tourist. More than 4 km walkable and perfectly preserved, which surround the historic centre and provide an alternative and wonderful view of the city and its surroundings. A real green lung that is loved by citizens and tourists for walking and playing sports in the open air. Perfectly manicured green lawns, leafy trees, and places to rest and relax in the cool are scattered all along the walls.<\/p>\n

A work of inestimable value, dating back to the Renaissance period, but already anticipated by two previous city walls, one from the Roman and one from the Middle Ages, of which some remains remain within the city.
\nNear our B&B Villa La Tuia, it is possible to reach Porta dei Borghi, one of the few remains of medieval doors together with Porta San Gervasio. <\/p>\n
But there is also a less known face of the walls, more hidden and less usual but extremely suggestive. The defensive system of the walls hides underground passages, the \\sorties\\” placed in correspondence with the bulwarks which constituted a quick passage for any military actions. <\/p>\n
In recent years important restoration and enhancement works have been carried out on the walls and some of the main outlets (San Martino Santa Croce and San Paolino) have been returned to the citizens open to the public and made walkable. Crossing the sorties passing under the ancient vaults to reach the nerve centres of the city is a unique experience. Below and above the walls inside and outside the city between ancient gates hidden underground tunnels green meadows and luxuriant nature visiting Lucca is an opportunity not to be missed.
